2020 BUILDSOUTH AWARDS – HIGHLIGHTS

Alabama Associated General Contractors commemorates the chapter’s centennial by honoring top contractors and construction companies across the state of Alabama.

Alabama’s leading construction association, Alabama AGC, is proudly stepping into its 100th year of operation. To commemorate the milestone, the organization held its annual BUILDSouth Awards Ceremony hosted by James Spann on Thursday, January 16 at The Club in Birmingham. The event recognized the exceptional individuals and companies who have left a mark on the state, its communities, and the construction industry.

Governor Kay Ivey expressed, “These dedicated men and women are proof that there is no limit to what we can dream and build here in Alabama.” In the past 100 years, Alabama AGC members have directed and contributed to projects in the building, highway, heavy and municipal contractor categories.

President of CompTrustAGC, Jeff Rodgers, quotes, “There is not a town or city in Alabama that has not improved and benefitted from Alabama AGC and it’s members.”

Along with the various construction projects, the organization was instrumental in the passage and implementation of the Go Build Program, which spends $1 million a year promoting the skilled trades to the state’s youth. The Craft Training Act is a natural extension to that, generating money to promote education in the skilled trades statewide. Both of these initiatives are funded by the construction industry and are seen as nationwide models for progressive workforce programs.

In 2019, Alabama AGC also held a significant role in launching the Hoover city school system’s Skills Trade Academy at the Riverchase Career Connection Center (RC3), a program designed to advance youth education and fill worker shortages in the construction industry.

Billy Norrell, Alabama AGC Chief Executive Officer, states, “Very few organizations can boast the longevity, strength and loyalty that Alabama AGC can. We are thrilled to celebrate the centennial with our membership by kicking things off with the BUILDSouth extravaganza. Alabama AGC is looking forward to a bright future and the next century of continued success.”

Since January 1, 1920, Alabama Associated General Contractors has brought together qualified construction contractors and industry-related companies dedicated to skill, integrity and responsibility. The Association provides broad influence and a full range of services satisfying the needs and concerns of its members, partners and the industry, thereby improving the quality of construction and protecting the public interest.
